In June of 2019 I came to the obvious but sudden realization that I had one purpose in this life— to know Him and make Him known.
It was only out of desperation and loneliness that I came to this conclusion. I spent the summer as an AuPair in Italy and between traveling alone, not speaking the language and missing home, I was forced into dependence on Him. I had no other choice but to slow down so I could experience His presence, and He gladly met me there. As the summer before my senior year of college and preparing for the next season of life; this realization was a moment of pure clarity, reassurance and joy.
As life continued, I clung to this realization, so much so that it’s tatooed on my wrist as a daily reminder. I use it to comfort my mind and heart quite often, but I can’t truthfully say I live it out daily and seek Him.
Yet, I encounter the need for this reminder every single day. Every question I have in life will be answered through that sole purpose.—
The definition for known is “familiar, recognized or within the scope of knowledge”.
I translated that easily…
to know Him = to be familiar,
to make Him known = recognized,
and finally to be known by Him = within the scope of knowledge.
I am fully known to Him… every single part of me.
In June of 2025, I’ve been given renewed purpose in seeking exactly that.
To know Him and make Him known.
“God is all-seeing, all-knowing, all-powerful and everywhere present. God knows us, God is with us, and His greatest gift is to allow us to know Him.” —Psalm 139
